Desert Therapy Corsica

Day 1 May 29
We arrived in Saint Florent after crossing the slightly rocky sea over night. We sailed from Bocca di Magra on the beautiful “Bravo Charlie” to reach Corsica for our Desert Therapy journey in the Desert des Agriates. It is a route we tried last year and are repeating due to the success of our first edition. The presence of the boat will make it even more fascinating. Maurizio, our great skipper, will take “Bravo Charlie” to meet us at the end of each section in the coves where we can pitch our tents in the sand on the seashore. Today was devoted to buying the necessities and relaxing as we wait to begin our journey tomorrow. On foot for four days, we will cross the trail from Doganieri to the beach at Ostriconi, the destination of our journey. The group of 10 people can’t wait to start. The weather is wonderful and the sea is marvelous. After a hearty dinner, we will prepare all our materials and go to bed. Tomorrow, the first section awaits us. After about five hours of walking, we will arrive at the beach of Saleccia, that has nothing to envy from the Caribbean beaches. Moral is high and Desert Therapy, as always, is able to create a harmonious group.

Day 2 May 30
We began our trekking. After a hearty breakfast, the boat took us to the trailhead to cross Desert des Agriates, the only official desert in Europe. The weather is wonderful and the sea is calm, making a splendid frame for our trek that winds along the coast. At noon, we took a break for lunch on the beautiful beach of Lotu. We also swam in the cool but pleasant sea. In the early afternoon, we continued our hiking immersed in the enchanting Mediterranean, full of fragrances. As expected, after about five hours, we arrived at the beach of Saleccia, a large white sand beach where we will make our first camp. The boat is waiting for us in the harbor with all the materials necessary to spend the evening and night on the beach. After the usual toasts and a wonderful dinner served with the usual joy that characterizes Desert Therapy, we prepared for our first night in tents. The climate is mild and the group is full of enthusiasm for the day we just experienced together.

Day 3 May 31
We woke up early this morning, as the sun lit up our tents. The start of a new day in the outdoors made everyone happy. After a hearty breakfast, we quickly dismantled our tents. With the support of the small motorized raft all the material was brought back to the boat. “Bravo Charlie” will proceed to the arrival of our next stage, the beach Ghignu. We began to walk at half past nine today since the path is shorter, about three hours. We stopped often to admire the breathtaking view of the deserted coves surrounded by clear water that rivals the Caribbean. We took our usual stop at noon for a quick snack and a swim. Then, we set off towards the finish where Maurice and Oscar, respectively skipper and doctor of the group, were waiting for us with a delicious aperitivo. In the afternoon, Max made a brief dive, hoping to catch something for dinner. There was nothing to catch, the water was cold, and after a few minutes, he was back. We will have to do without fish and instead, have good turkey cutlets. The sky was overcast and raining for a few minutes. Fortunately, the sea is calm, and spirits are high!

Day 4 June 1
We should have arrived in the early afternoon, after about three and a half hours of walking on the small beach Lacciolu. The boat was unable to anchor in the harbor due to rough seas so we decided to proceed until reaching the large beach of Ostriconi. In total, we walked for six hours but no one complained of tiredness. The trail was varied and not too difficult. We travelled between freshwater lagoons, beaches hidden in the rocks, and wooded sections, ending in an area farthest from the sea surrounded by scented Mediterranean vegetation and many mountain peaks of great beauty. From Ostriconi, we reached L’lle Rousse and here we found “Bravo Charlie” waiting for us in the port. Finally, we could have a shower and a cup of hot tea! We are getting ready to have dinner on board, which promises to be wonderful thanks to Lauren and Max who are spoiling the Desert Therapy guests. Desert des Agriates impressed everyone with its wild charm.

Day 5 June 2
A day of relaxation. The weather has improved and the sea is calm again. From Ile Rousse, we decided to return to Saint Florent on “Bravo Charlie” to refuel and to enjoy a day of sea and sun. Finally, we managed to hoist the sails and enjoy our beautiful boat. We took a break for lunch in a lovely cove where we had time to play in the crystal clear water, as you can find only here. After three days of walking, relaxing in the sun on “Bravo Charlie” was really refreshing. Our guests, now all friends, spent time enjoying the water, laughing, and telling stories of travel. Unbelievable. It takes just a few days to bring together a very diverse group. Desert Therapy once again has proven successful and has managed to create new friendships destined to last. Early tomorrow morning, we will sail towards Bocca di Magra. Our wonderful trip is coming to an end but the memory of a particularly intense journey will remain long in our memory.

Day 6 June 3
At four-thirty in the morning, the boat led by our skipper, Maurizio, brought up our anchor and headed for Bocca di Magra where our trip began a week ago. The weather was partly cloudy but the calm sea is encouraging. We expect it to take thirteen hours to cross. Everyone can choose to spend time as they wish. Some choose sunbathing; others prefer to chat with friends or read. We decided to sail a long distance. Sailing, and the silence broken only by the lapping of the sea, is very relaxing. Before lunch, we took the opportunity for one last swim in the open sea, diving from the boat. Oscar, our doctor, also joined in. We arrived at Bocca di Magra on time. A bit of sadness is in everyone’s eyes when departing from “Bravo Charlie”, which has become our new home. During the dinner hosted by Desert Therapy in a nice restaurant on the water, we exchange impressions on the experience just concluded, with the hope of coming together again soon for a new adventure. Stefania, one of our guests, will still be with us in the White Desert in Egypt for the first trip in October. Everyone is planning on attending the next Desert Therapy evening. We leave you with a toast to the dedicated staff, who worked very hard to create a special trip, and friends who made it memorable.
